2008Blue Grouse

The road to Hurricane Ridge was thumping with all the (clearly misnamed!) blue grouses this past week-end. Blue grouses (technically Sooty Grouses) are striking looking and suprisingly approachable birds. I managed to snap quite a few closeups of both males and females.

Nice expression, almost like the bird was posing for you! I personally like the tail, did you get any closer shots of that?

I did get some shots of the fanned out tail — but unfortunately they were not sharp…

I saw a grouse recently for the first time – and realized what it was after seeing your page. Believe it or not, it was actually on Grouse Mountain, reached by road from near Lake Chelan. Interesting creature.

A fascinating, and very nicely captured, photograph.
